Happy Thanksgiving!

Enjoy your family, enjoy your turkey, and really enjoy the football.

Also, let me know if you need to be rescued from anything with a phone call from your long distance friend.

Personally, I'm thankfull for my family, my friends, and car insurance.

150,,,

Only 150 days to go until my wedding... that might sound awesome to everyone but to me it's a nightmare because I still haven't found the right officiant. What am I going to do? Also I can't afford to buy anything anymore because our country continues to decide to put of trillions of dollars in debt with bailouts for Wall Street. Anyway, I know I am going to be alright just wanted to give everyone the 150 day update.

Technophilia

Yesterday my dream lover arrived on my doorstep. I ran my fingers over him and said, "Just a moment baby, I'm going to take a bath."

Then I took a bubble bath. Then I put some lingerie on, and went downstairs and lit some candles. I got out my array of naughty toys. I put on Joe Crocker's "You can leave your hat on," and then we settled on to the couch.

Then my husband walked in on us and was like, "Oh, I see your new computer got here."

His name is Prospero.

Giggidty!

MLS Legacy

Hiya ladies,

Just a quick update on my quest for an MLS. I had my interview for my chosen school today (yes, they require a face-to-face interview for admission). My interviewer, also my advisor at that school, made a joke about how it felt like I was a Legacy applicant or something because of how many people previously in the program had contacted her about me; Mr. B's mom, The Librarian, went there, as did one of our other close friends, not to mention the bazillion other librarians in our family...

Anyways, the advisor is recommending that I be admitted. They don't actually do legacy admittance; my test scores and transcripts were just that great.

She also said that if I finished my current MA in addition, I would be well qualified to work in just about any academic library anywhere (apparently CompLing is big in Library Science now). So that's something to think about.

I'm feeling a lot better with a plan now; I wasn't sure where I was going to be next semester. Now I'm 90% sure I'll be doing my MLS online with weekdays free to work so I can pay for the program.

Also, my baby (the new laptop) shipped on the 10th and is slated to arrive by the 17th. I am accepting suggestions for a name.

Huzzah for having a plan!

I'm going to have an affair...

...with my NEW LAPTOP! Ha!

I will now shamelessly plug the DELL online outlet store, which sells three different types of heavily discounted laptops: previously ordered new, certified refurbished, and scratch & dent.

Previously ordered new: someone ordered a computer and then sent it back for some reason, like it was the wrong color.

Certified Refurbished: laptops with a little cometic damage.

Scratch and dent: laptops with a little more cosmetic damage.

Of course, these are my definitions and not Dell's--but please note all damage is cosmetic, meaning the actual computers are still intact and fully functional.

So Q and Munchkin were at my house last night, along with Q's mom. Mr. B had been out of town for a week so he bought me flowers. I felt guilty because we then proceeded to totally trash our living room with sewing and birdseed projects. Mr. B, who is normally incredibly stressed about messy situations, was just really cool about it--he told me not to worry about it that night and we would "just clean it up tomorrow."

Then today I was talking about all these great deals through the Dell outlet store and I found this Studio 15, Midnight Blue, 320 GB SATA Hard Drive, 3 GB memory, ATI 3450 video card, built in webcam, Windows Vista Premium, Microsoft Office complete package, hot and sexy laptop.

I look at Mr. Borealis and ask him to guess the price. He guesses correctly at about $1200. I tell him THIS sexy laptop is only $650 because it's previously ordered new and customized. I bat my eyes and jokingly ask if he'll buy it for me.

He says "sure."

Yeah. So check out the great deals here.

Beating up on myself

Well, yesterday Mr. Borealis said (in a very non-hurtful just-being-a-stupid-man kind of way) that he felt a little sorry for the fact that I wasn't employed in my field. I was fishing for encouragement at the time--I'm freaking 24 with a BA and some work on an MA, working 3 part-time jobs and still don't know what I'm doing with my life.

I'm proud to say I haven't cried yet, but I did have a freak out when he said it. I spent a bunch of time online and sought out the FBI employment page; that would the reason I got into Linguistics to begin with. I still think it would be really awesome to be an intelligence analyst; the sad thing is, I'm totally qualified, too.

But I also really want to do the whole small business owner artist writer thing (wow, that looks really immature on paper). I'd like to build the business while I do the whole librarian thing. I'm totally qualified to do this as well, but my odds are a lot worse at success.

So really, really smart logician and analytical thinker Alula got in a fight with totally freakishly creative and passionate Alula today.

And sadly, the two really aren't compatible. And more sadly, in the end it doesn't really matter what I pick because if Mr. B gets a better job elsewhere, we're moving. He's taking the Foreign Service Officers Exam this Saturday for a position that would reassign him outside the US; I'm very proud of him and I think it would be totally cool to live somewhere else for a while. He's out of town again and I miss him pathetically too much right now.

And he forgot to pay the HOA fees this month, so the money came out of my personal account, and now I'm down another $230 on the new laptop I desperately need. And by desperately, I do mean it--this current laptop is six years old and takes (literally) a whole minute to load even basic websites, and I'm about to have heavy school and work loads.

Too much talent, not enough direction

I am apparently good and have talent at a lot of things. I can knit, and am entering a design contest that would pay real money if I won. I'm just waiting on the yarn to get actually working on this. I'm thinking of writing a book (about knitting, on knitting theory 101, for people who don't learn as organically as most knitting books teach. And maybe even a sequel on color theory for people who didn't go to art school).

I can cook. I have plans for spending excessive time in the kitchen over the next month perfecting Christmas brownies. I want to enter the "next food network star" contest, but I realize that the show I would make would talk about the science/history behind everyday foods, and contain lots of puns. That show has already been made.

The only thing I can't decide on, is a career.
