Just let it end.

So today I talked to lawyers all day long, from like 9:30am to 2:40 pm, during this time I was forced to recollect the terrible car accident I went through. There was much crying and I never want to talk to another lawyer again. So anyway, besides lawyers. I've been on "my time of the month" for one month and one day. I am going to switch gyno's I'm pretty sure.
Onto wedding things... Last night I meet with the pastor who is going to marry me and Mr.Munchkin, it went very well. I am attempting to keep this updated for all of you who I don't speak with on a regular basis about this. The pastor doesn't officially know that we live together but we dropped several hints at it, and he did not seem to get less excited about it because of those hints. I certainly hope that Mr. Munchkin can find a way to keep his mouth shut about his anti-church philosophies long enough to get us married. Everything else is going as planned and I can't wait until a ton of things are just done already... like lawyers, my wedding, and for Godsake my PERIOD.

Why do these crazy things keep happening to me!

Before Mr. Q left for Iraq we invested in a land line so I could quote *have a dependable phone*.
Its been giving me some trouble over the last two months. I keep having trouble when it because sometimes my line is in use and all of the phones are on the hook. I have also been getting calls for a man we will call Billy Jo Jo! I get about 3 or 4 calls for Billy Jo Jo or his wife a day if I am home to pick up. I keep telling people that they do not live here. They keep telling me they got this number from Billy Jo Jo. I was starting to thing he was trying to hide form collection agencies. Today however Billy Jo Jo's mother called. Very nice lady. We talked and to my shock and amazement Billy Jo Jo has my same phone number! Sometimes she gets a hold of him and sometimes she gets me. Fascinating!
I called the phone company and they told me that it can happen its just really hard to do. They are going to come check my box tomorrow and make sure it is working and has not been tampered with. Apparently there is a charge for changing your phone number but the tech guy told me that I will not have to pay for it. He is hopping he can figure out what is happening instead of changing my number. But Billy Jo Jo's number really is the same number, and he is using it for his job so I guess I will get a new number in a few days.
Can't wait to tell you all how it works out!

Test run

This is a test run of my mail to blogger, I really have nothing else to say.  Except maybe that I welcome our new google overlords and wish to bake them cookies. Hmm, maybe I need to check my bread

The Borealis Family Christmas Adventure

Apologies it's long--none of these places had internet so this represents my whole week. I've also commented on your last posts since getting back. :)

Well, we got back last night. I don't think I told you all about the last-minute vacation we planned to visit our out of town grandparents; here goes:

The day before we left (Teusday, December 23rd), my WALL-E tree arrived. For those of you unfamiliar with this movement, if you buy a copy of WALL-E the movie you can use a special code online to have them send you a totally free tree that is native to your area. Of course, I was all over this, and our free tree, a Blue Spruce, arrived that day looking just like a Charley Brown Christmas:
I planted it indoors, but we're putting it outside in the Spring in our back courtyard. We drove out to Oklahoma on Christmas Eve. Here's Kansas: Those blurry black dots are cows. Imagine ten hours of this while reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince aloud and eating fast food and you've pretty well got the idea of my Christmas Eve.

Christmas Day we woke up at Mr. Borealis's maternal grandmother. She's onery, in her seventies, and unapologetically smokes like a damn chimney. Nice old woman, but this trip just about killed my lungs. We stayed with her the three nights we were in Oklahoma City because everyone and their mom stays at his paternal grandparents and winds up way too many to a room with no privacy. We only woke up there, though; Day 1 belonged to the paternal grandparents, and we opened presents and ate and yadda yadda yadda, there was much rejoicing. I helped one of his little cousins set up her nifty new IPod and she was so happy she nearly peed herself (really cute). Of course, this represented Xmas Round 2 for us, because we did Xmas with my immediate family the Monday evening before to accomdate everyone's schedules.

Day 2, the day after Christmas, aka Xmas Round 3, belonged to Mr. Borealis's maternal Grandmother (the smoker). More presents and eating, and watching old family videos of Mr. B and his generation when they were kids opening presents. I told Q a few weeks back that there were 3 reasons Mr. B was going to change his mind and want kids some day--1) Everyone in his family has kids and his biologic clock was ticking down, 2) He fears being the sole provider, but the second I have a "real" job he won't have this pressure, and 3) Mr. Borealis subconciously likes screwing me over, and the second I establish myself in a career he will decide it is my duty to sit in a corner and gestate. Folks, reason number one approaches; while watching the family videos he remarked on how cute his little sister was, then he looked at me with this silly-ass grin and says: "I want one!"

Yeah. Not happening. I told him to pay a surrogate because I have not the time, money, or desire to kill my body when we already have perfectly good nieces and nephews. Anyone who tells you I don't already have kids lies.

Day number 3, aka Xmas round 4, we drove up from Oklahoma City to visit my maternal grandmother in Tulsa. Two uncles, an aunt, and a cousin were also there; they thought we had picked up smoking when we walked in the door because the smell from Mr. B's grandmother had thoroughly soaked into our cloths and hair. I'm currently washing EVERYTHING trying to get the smell out. Mr. B annoyedly has sprayed everything down with air freshener already; didn't help.

We went to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button; I give it three stars out of five. Wasn't fantastic. After the movie the restrooms were crowded, and the girl in line behind me was on her cell phone. She continued her conversation into the stall, out of the stall, to the sinks, and right out of the bathroom. Never stopped talking. That's classy.

Here we are driving out of Tulsa:

So Merry (Late) Christmas to all! I'm in the process of taking down the Xmas deco around the site and replacing it with other wintery fare; we might get a new layout for the 1st.

And a Happy New Year!

Cats!

Lazy good for nothing cats!

The most geeky thing I have ever done.

(Sorry if the image is large, I'm in computer transition)

I'm debating between letting the image speak for itself and explaining some more.

My big Christmas gift was a whole pile of boxes. That all contained computer parts. So over the last couple of days, I have been building my new computer. It's so shiny it glows. (The case fans, well 3 of the 4, have blue LED lights in them.) And you can see it's innards. It was a whole bunch of fun, and a learning experience. I am no longer afraid of messing about on the inside of my computer, because I know exactly what's in there. And this is great timing too, because my laptop needs to go in for repairs. Silly thing loosing power when it's unplugged for more than 2 minutes.

New member of the family!

hey ladies!
I did something bad today. I Went to the pet store for cat food and left with a Cat!
His Name is Malamar (like the Cookie) He is a 2 year old male. So far he is getting along rather well with my other cat AL. Al is also a 2 year old male. As luck would have it they are both orange tabbies. With no outstanding markings. I did not plan this, Mal just happened to be almost identical to Al. They are getting along better than I had expected. They have been together for nine hours now and I have only had to rip them apart once. Fur was flying everyware. Al will not leave Mal alone. I think Al its tring to get him to play but has no idea how to play with a cat. He keeps running up and bitting Mal and Mal keeps turning around and slapping him. Mal is so cuddly. Hopefully it will work out and Al will have a much needed play mate. Most if all I am hopping I am not alergic to the new cat.
Mr. Q if you happen to read this before I have a chance to explane myself. I Sorry. I'm not sure were my head was.

Frost. Inside my house.

Yes, you read that correctly. Last night while I was putting up groceries I looked at the window over my kitchen sink, and noticed a film several millimeters thick of ice frozen to the metal window frame. Inside the house!

Have I mentioned it's cold here?

(Still not finished with that term paper, but approaching. Wish me luck because I have approximately 4 hours to finish the last 5 pages between work and entertaining tonight.)

Really really cold

Hey y'all. It's 1 degree farenheit outside where I am right now. There's 6 inches of snow in the back courtyard and we're expecting more tonight. I have written approximately 2 pages of my 15 page final paper which I MUST finish by tomorrow morning, and despite the fact that I BEGGED for help this weekend from Mr. Borealis, I did the laundry, dishes, and cooking this weekend myself. I think I saw him open and heat a can of spaghetti-o's for himself once, which was amazing.

Haven't done my Christmas shopping yet.

Need to go to the bank.

I have work and guests tomorrow evening.

But it will get done. (SERENITY NOW!)

And a quick reminder, the uber holiday cookie event is this Saturday at my place for anyone who wishes to swing through between the hours of 9am and 10pm.

Oh irony, my old nemesis...

Well, I had an appointment with my linguistics program advisor this afternoon. She informed that (guess what?) some of the stuff I did as an undergrad counts towards my MA. So, while I've been under the impression that I had 5 more classes to go before graduation was possible, I actually only have 3. So in theory, I could have this MA by next spring if I can finance it.

And since I officially got into my MLS program, I am officially 30K in the hole over the next three years. Yes, you here me correctly, I was burned out on my Ling because I thought I had one more semester than I actually did, so I signed up to put myself in a metric buttload more of school and debt. Irony's a bastard, my friends.

Wanna here some other stuff about irony? The advisor I spoke to today informs me that the "strict" 4 year limit advertised by the graduate school actually isn't. Swear to God she looked right at me and basically said "deadline, schmeadline--if you need more time I'll push through an extension for you."

Yes, really. Ask and you shall receive.

Oh, and the paper I'm currently supposed to be writing because it's due on the 15th and I'm supposed to present my research in class 9am tomorrow but I'm avoiding it by writing this post instead?--The class executed a mutiny. I got this email late last night from my professor saying someone approached her and said there was a general consensus in the class that 15 pages single spaced was too large a workload. Now, I don't know who the pansy is that thinks 15 pages (including diagrams and references) is too much for a graduate level term paper, but the professor decided to shorten the paper to "whatever we feel is appropriate" and extend the dealine 2 days.

Yes, really. I'm still freaking out, though, because I still have no time to do any of it (except for this evening and tomorrow afternoon, basically--then Mr. B is back in town and will require my attention because he gets jealous every time I have to do anything of importance).

I'm also fat and dissatisfied with my work. Thought I'd throw that in for good measure. Oh, and I haven't had a period in 6 weeks. Go me.

But the basic plan is as follows: I am taking a semester off of Ling. My advisor has approved this, as she understands I need a full time job for at least that long to build up the financial basis to complete my schooling. So, I will start the MLS in January and plug away at that and a full time job until August, when I reassess my finances and decide if I need an extra semester off from Ling. Hopefully I will not, and I will complete my MA in Ling in Spring of 2010. Then I can full-time it until I'm out of the MLS in summer/fall of 2011.

PS the tea shop is still on, email me if you have any epiphanies on names.

Happy Holiday Freak Out,

Alula

135 and counting...

I've decided I'll be doing an every 15 day post until the day of my wedding just to keep yall updated. I think I've found someone to officiate my wedding, the Pastor that baptized me has a message left for him from my mother. Hopefully this will pull through in the end. School is FINALLY over for the semester, and not a day too soon. I just have to email two more things to my teachers take a test tonight and then I'm done. I wonder if it's normal to feel a little bit crazy when so many things happen at the same time, I certainly do. I might be delving into the world of financial services, hopefully that will help me make a couple extra bucks.
Truly I am just praying that this Christmas season will go smoothly for everyone, and that we can all see each other again very soon and feel great about just having the chance to be together again. Good luck ladies, I'll be hoping to hug you all soon. =)

Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

News Flash: Prospero mates with Little Lucky, allows Alula to upload pictures from cell phone to computer, finally finding a way around Mr. Borealis hiding the G-D digital camera.

Hey yall (especially DoHP). Here's the view out my kitchen window this morning:

And here's me, driving home from school. The car is moving 15mph on the highway, and I was half an hour late to school after one and a half hours in traffic. (Note: Do not operate cell phone while driving. I realized this was a bad idea right after I did it.):

Here is the back courtyard, snow accumulation visible on the table:And here are signs of the holidays around my house. We actually have three trees, of which this is the main (the other two are on the dining room table and in the office):

Happy Holidays everyone! It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here--hope everyone is getting in the spirit. The annual holiday bakeoff and cookie swap will be at my place on Saturday the 20th, just in time for Yule on the 21st, and all are invited to attend and bring recipes to share.
